Pavit hits 65 to take 11-stroke lead

[Golf] When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
Pavit Tangkamolprasert scorched the Palm Hills Country Club golf course with a brilliant 7-under 65 to take an 11-stroke lead over his brother Anoop in the boys Flight A after the second round of the 5th UBC International Junior Golf Championships yesterday. The greens were a challenge for the players for the second consecutive day. The tough pin positions made life difficult for them and input from the caddies, who are making a living from carrying the bag, was sparse. Pavit, however, had no such problems. "It's very exciting. This is the best round I have ever played in my life. I concentrated a lot on my game," said Pavit, who hit 13 fairways and made seven short putts. "The key was my iron play. I hit close to the pin and made easy birdie putts," he said. The Thai, who turns 17 on May 2, credited his superb play to his coach Lervit Bulsombut, who was watching him closely in the first round. "He told me that I was playing safe in the first round and I should be more aggressive," said the cheerful Pavit, who is a student of Regent International School in Bangkok. Pavit, who will be trying to qualify for the Asian Tour next year after playing in the World Juniors in San Diego, had birdies on holes 2, 4, 10, 11, 15, 16 and 18. Gregory Foo of Singapore continued to lead in Flight C despite a 73 today, while Thailand's talented junior Korntawach Julamol shot a fine 69 to lead in Flight D. "I am thrilled by the way I hit my approach shots today," said Korntawach.
