300 'Caravanners' turn themselves in

More than 300 members of the Caravan of the Poor yesterday turned themselves in to the Royal Thai Police after Kom Chad Luek newspaper filed complaints against Caravan leaders.

On Tuesday, the sister publication of The Nation filed complaints accusing Caravan leaders of illegal detention during the group's seven-hour siege of Nation Multimedia Group's complex last Thursday.

Caravan leader Atthawit Singlor said he and other leaders denied all the allegations.

They did not blockade the complex, he said.

"We listened to the newspaper's answers on March 28 after we questioned Kom Chad Luek, and they gave two days to reply," he said.

Deputy Metropolitan Police Commissioner Maj-General Chadchawan Suksomjit said members of the Caravan had not been charged yet. - The Nation
