Foot volley all set for kick-off

[FOOT VOLLEY] The Thai foot volley team have set their sights on beating reigning champions Brazil when they meet in Pattaya for the UBC World Foot Volley League, which will be contested from April 12-15.
The international tournament, which will be held on Jomtien Beach, will be an opportunity for the Thai team to show how much they have improved after their recent tough training programme. Foot volley, which is something like the local sport of sepak takraw, has two teams of two players per side and they compete on a sand volleyball court with the object of grounding the ball on the opposing teams' side not using more than three touches per team or using the players' hands. Prapoot Kamlangake, the secretary-general of the Foot Volley Association of Thailand (FVAT), has enlisted two national team players, Thani Ruengsri and Winai Thonglai, who finished in third place last year in the World Holland Foot Volley League. "We also have rising stars from the University Foot Volley Championships and we are certain to defeat many good teams," said Prapoot. Besides Thailand, Brazil, Holland, France, Great Britain, Spain, Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore are sending teams to the four-day meet. Meanwhile, the FVAT has invited two world class players, former Liverpool star John Barnes and former Ireland international Niall Quinn, to be special guest players in a celebrity match against the Thai duo Piyapong Pew-on and Teeratep "Leesaw" Winothai on April 15.
