Bt1 billion lost in shoe factory fire

A blaze yesterday destroyed a distribution warehouse at an Ecco shoe factory in Ayutthaya province, destroying about Bt1 billion worth of finished shoes and raw materials.

There were no casualties.

Police said they suspected the fire had been caused by a short circuit, but investigators were still combing through the rubble last night.

It took about 30 fire trucks almost three hours to extinguish the blaze.

The fire broke out about 5.30am.

About 30 employees who were working inside the warehouse tried but failed to put it out.

The warehouse was on Saha Rattana Nakhon industrial estate in Nakhon Luang district.

Except for a few beams at the front, it was burned to the ground.
