Thailand ready for title defence

[BOXING] Thailand will be out to defend their overall crown in the King's Cup International Amateur Boxing Championships at The Mall Ngarmwongwarn's MCC Hall between April 4 and 10.
To commemorate the 60th anniversary of His Majesty the King's accession to the throne, the organising committee is trying to make the one-week meet the biggest ever with more than 200 boxers taking part. Russia, South Korea, North Korea, Syria, Japan, the Netherlands, China, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, India, Macau, Pakistan, Laos and Taiwan have confirmed their participation. General Taweep Jantararoj, president of the Amateur Boxing Association of Thailand (Abat), said two local teams would be fielded in the championships. "We will put two teams in the meet. Team A consists of people who will compete in the Asian Games in Doha this December," Taweep said. "Team B will have lots of youngsters," he added. Cash incentives await the Thai boxers if they are successful in the championships. A bonus of Bt20,000 will be on offer for each Thai boxer winning a gold medal. Somporn Suphop The Nation
