Tough draw for champs Hi-Tech

[BASKETBALL] Reigning champions Hi-Tech were yesterday handed a tough draw in Group A of the King's Cup Division A Basketball Championships, which will kick off on April 26 at Siam University in Bangkhae.
Hi-Tech are in Group A, which comprises old foes Thiew Pai Ngarm, Police, Sirichai Oil and Phusiri-Ruan Aiyara. Last year's two runners-up, the Provincial Electricity Authority (PEA) and Bangkok Bank, are in Group B with Royal Thai Navy, Royal Thai Air Force and SK Polymate. In the women's category, champions for 13 consecutive times Bangkok Bank A are in Group A with Rak Nam Jai Samosorn, Kasembundit, Rattanabundit and Chiang Mai, while Group B consists of Wat Noi Noppakhun Teachers and Parents Association, Hi-Tech, Bangkok B and BU Bas. After the round-robin, the top two teams from each group will play in the semi-finals. The winners will then battle it out for the crown, while the losers will appear in the third-place play-off. The first round will be staged at Siam University from April 26 to May 10, with the semi-finals and finals taking place at Hua Mark Indoor Stadium on May 11 and 12. In a friendly basketball match between Siam University and the NMG Seniors, played after the draw, the latter narrowly won 62-59. Professor Dr Nipone Sukpreedee, the deputy director of the university, presided over the draw yesterday.
