IN BRIEF
Politics: Man seeks charges against PAD

A man yesterday filed a complaint urging police to investigate five leaders of the People's Alliance for Democracy.

Chanapat na Nakhon said the five PAD leaders had sought a royally appointed prime minister, which he argued was an unconstitutional method of replacing Thaksin Shinawatra.

The PAD leaders are Sondhi Limthongkul, Chamlong Srimuang, Somsak Kosaisuk, Pipop Thongchai and Somkiart Pongpaiboon. Chanapat said National Police Chief General Kowit Watana should look into the matter. On Monday he lodged a similar complaint against two academics, Surapon Nitikraipot and Chai-anan Samudvanija.

Quit call: More back ouster

More than 60 lecturers at Chulalongkorn University's Faculty of Arts yesterday issued a statement calling for Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra's resignation, saying he had lost legitimacy.

After meeting on Wednesday, the academics agreed to push for Thaksin to step down to prevent a crisis, said Suthachai Yimprasert, a member of the campaign.
