IN BRIEF
Barnes for foot volley

Former Liverpool player John Barnes has confirmed his participation in the inaugural World Foot Volley League, which is scheduled for April 12 to 15 in Pattaya.

Barnes will replace another Liverpool ex-player, Peter Beardsley, who cried off citing personal reasons. Barnes and former Ireland international Niall Quinn, who will represent Great Britain, will be the star attraction of the four-day competition.

Besides hosts Thailand, Brazil, Holland, France, Spain, Great Britain, Malaysia, Brunei and Singapore are taking part in the competition. The Foot-Volley Association of Thailand (FVAT), which will field four teams in the event, is conducting a training camps for 12 players at the Thai Buri Course and Hua Mark.

"This is a real test of character for our boys since their opponents are of world class. We believe we have an opportunity to win," said Prapoot Kamlangake, secretary-general of the FVAT.
