Shooters take aim at Olympics

[SHOOTING] The national shooting team has been working harder than ever to do well in the World Cup series and earn slots in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
The National Shooting Sports Association of Thailand (NSSAT) has selected 63 shooters for intensive training for five major competitions that includes the World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia. Winners of each category from the five-leg circuit in Guangzhou (China), Rezende (Brazil), Munich (Germany), Milan (Italy) and Zagreb will be automatically awarded places in the Olympics. "Our aim is to get our shooters to qualify for the Olympics. They have a better chance in Zagreb because it's the final tournament of the year and all the shooters will be better prepared by then," association vice-secretary general Khirisak Tantinawachai said. The NSSAT will field only those shooters who have the best potential to win medals in the Guangzhou meet from March 25 to April 2. The series moves to Rezende on April 25-May 3, to Munich from May 21-28 and to Milan from May 29-June 6. The World Championships, the final episode, will take place in Zagreb from July 20-August 5. The 63-member squad, which will be pruned to 23 after the National Games in September, will represent Thailand in the Asiad scheduled for December 1-15. Alitta Tangrungruengkit The Nation
