Foreign worker fee relaxation

Employers can now register foreign workers without immediately submitting a money guarantee of Bt10,000 or Bt50,000 per head.

A panel is currently reviewing whether the guarantees are excessive.

Employment Department director-general Chuthatawat Indrasuksri yesterday said if a reduction was approved, his agency would return money already posted by employers.

Employers can register their foreign workers until March 30, at which time authorities will launch a crackdown on those still unregistered. Both unregistered workers and their employers will be subject to legal punishment after March 30. Upon registration employers must pay Bt3,800 in fees relating to medical check-ups, health-insurance and licensing.

Chuthatawat said the review of the registration fees had come about because so many employers complained about the costs. - The Nation
