Peaceful ending sought

The government should call on protesters to stop demonstrating and urge them to hold peaceful talks, 70 per cent of respondents to an Abac Poll said on Tuesday.

About 16 per cent of 1,205 respondents in and around Bangkok wanted the government to let the protesters continue rallying peacefully, while almost 8 per cent said the government should let the protesters continue rallying without any conditions, Abac Poll said yesterday.

About 6 per cent said the government should call on the protesters to stop rallying and for all parties to follow the Constitution and accept the ideas of other groups.

Over 60 per cent of respondents said they would disagree if the govern

ment declared a state of emergency now.

However, over 50 per cent said they would support the declaration if any violence occurred or the situation got out of control, the poll said.

About 60 per cent of respondents said they wanted to see peaceful demonstrations, and almost half said they wanted demonstrators to be disciplined and avoid using rude language.
