'Casinos' to be dismantled

A court has ordered the owners of shophouses that have been remodelled into gambling dens in Bangkok's Pratunam area to dismantle them within 30 days, the police inspector-general said yesterday.

The order was issued at the request of the Ratchathewi District Office. It applies to unauthorised renovations of buildings by unnamed owners, General Seriphisut Temiyavej said.

The owners would have to pay for disassembly work performed by the district office.

Seriphisut said he was working with the Crime Suppression Division to gather evidence against Metropolitan Police officers suspected of having let the casinos operate in their precincts.
