Fire broke out at the Constitution Court

An arsonist set fire to the library of the Constitution Court on Thursday early morning but security guards were able to extinguish it before much damage was done, the court's secretarygeneral Sanit Chornanan said.
Only the library's door and a nearby tree were damaged from the fire which happened shortly before 1am this morning, Sanit said.He said the motive was unknown, but some officials suspected someone upset by a court decision was behind the incident. Security guards would patrol the premises more often and more floodlights would be installed, Sanit added. The fire was set in an unlit corner of the compound and a nearby security camera failed to capture the arsonist. The library's door was doused with petrol and set alight. Police recovered a petrol container and lighter near the court's outside wall and a plastic bag with traces of petrol. They collected fingerprints from the items as well as the fence the arsonist was likely to have climbed. The library has been recognised as one of the world's finest constitutional law libraries and the wellpreserved historic building it is housed in received an award from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
