Thai durable: Joint-venture talks with Sansiri and ex-BOT chief Chatumongol

Thai Durable is in talks with former governor of the Bank of Thailand MR Chatumongol Sonakul and Sansiri, a property developer, about changing its business from textiles to property development.
The company said it had been in discussion with the two parties to set up a joint venture with interested property developers.The land Thai Durable is expected to develop is in the Phrapradang district of Samut Prakan, about one kilometre from the bridges over the Chao Phya River, now under construction as part of Bangkok's western ring road. The 89-rai plot has an appraised value of Bt898.5 million. - The Nation. ------------------------------------------- Thai airways: Route rumour pooh-poohed Thai Airways International said it had not suspended its routes flown for Thai AirAsia, as the company had no intention of suspending flights to benefit other airlines. Vasing Kittikul, executive vice president for THAI, said the company competed with commercial airlines as part of the open-skies policy. He dismissed media reports that THAI had suspended its routes to Hong Kong, Taipei and Singapore because of decreased demand and intense competition. Despite the political crisis, there has been no effect on visitor numbers to Thailand, with arrivals up on last year. - The Nation. ------------------------------------------- Vietnamese oil: PTTEP upbeat on start date PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP) said yesterday that commercial production in Vietnam's Block 16-1 might start in late 2007. Previously, there had been no start date because of uncertainty over petroleum flow. "According to the agreement, we have to complete exploration and evaluate petroleum reserves in the block first before we can start production. But since the drilling has been successful, we have discussed with our partners the possibility of commencing production in parallel with the exploration of the remaining area," said PTTEP president Maroot Mrigadat. The testing of the TGT-2X appraisal well at the block has been completed, with a combined flow rate of about 17,500 barrels of oil a day. This includes a daily natural-gas flow of 10.03 million standard cubic feet, the PTTEP said in a filing to the Stock Exchange of Thailand. PTTEP Hoang Long, PTTEP's partner, holds a 28.5-per-cent interest in the project, while Soco Vietnam, OpecO Vietnam and Petrovietnam Exploration and Production hold 28.5 per cent, 2 per cent and 41 per cent, respectively. - The Nation. ------------------------------------------- Specs spectacle: Summer show to boost sales Give-aways are on offer at the Summer Eyewear show, which opens today at the Events Hall at The Mall Bang Kapi and runs until next Wednesday. The event, organised by the Better Vision and Mall groups, is an attempt to drive up sales by 20 per cent by the end of the year. Pakee Pracharktam, managing director of Better Vision, said the company would offer more than 30 brands of fashion eyewear, including Gucci, Armani, Guess, D&G, MaxMara and Prada. The company, which has about 18 per cent of the market, has set aside Bt20 million for marketing this year.
