Trang's Chevrolet showroom attacked

Gunmen opened fire on a Chevrolet showroom at about 3am yesterday, shattering its glass entrance and damaging the interior.
"We believe the attack was intended to intimidate and was not an attempt on anyone's life," said Colonel Jakpanu Rittisunthorn, superintendent of Muang Police Station. The attack might be the result of a conflict between the showroom's owner - Charnsiri Auto Sales Co Ltd - and a customer, Jakpanu said. The company had been involved in a dispute with the son of a former Trang MP, Chartchai Nilrata, recently. Chartchai was seriously injured in an accident last month when the airbag of a vehicle he purchased from Charnsiri Auto failed to function. After being discharged from hospital, Chartchai demanded the company pay compensation. "I am not very happy with the company, but I am not behind this attack," he said yesterday. He had settled the dispute with the company and his vehicle was being repaired at a garage, he said. Jessada Sarnsinpitak, the company's managing director, insisted it was not involved in any conflicts. "We don't know who was behind the attack and will leave it to police to find out the truth," he said. Security guard Manit Taengsuwan, 50, said he did not see how many gunmen there were. "I heard explosions and the glass door shattering, but I didn't see who did it. I immediately alerted my manager," he said. Manit was in a booth just four metres from the showroom when the attack took place. No vehicles were damaged. The Nation Trang
