Big chance for locals

[VOLLEYBALL] Up-and-coming young players have the chance to test themselves in several major competitions to be held in Thailand, including the National Volleyball Championship at Ramkhamhaeng Gymnasium from April 17 to May 10.
Apart from the national tournament, the National Division A Championship will also be staged from April 17-23 to give Thai players a chance to sharpen their skills, with teams vying for the prestigious HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's trophy. The Division B tournament will take place from April 19-24, while the National Junior Volleyball Championship with HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's trophy at stake will be contested from May 2-10. In additional to the indoor meets, the National Beach Volleyball Championship will also be held from March 22-26 in Ramkhamhaeng University. The tournaments are part of the Thailand Volleyball Assoc-iation's policy of seeking talented players to make up future national teams for international events this year including the Princess Cup, the World Grand Prix and also the Asian Games. "The association is searching for talented young players who will replace retired senior players in the near future. Only those who prove their skills in those tournaments will be chosen for the national teams," TVA secretary-general Shanrit Wongpra-sert said yesterday. Meanwhile the Phuket team continued their remarkable run in the Bt2 million Thailand Voll-eyball League with a straight-sets victory over Samut Prakarn on Sunday. Somporn Suphop The Nation
