Mock trial more damning of PM

The "court" hearing the mock trial of Thaksin Shinawatra has been convinced by the plaintiff's complaints that the prime minister broke the law to favour his family business and will take the case for further consideration.

A statement by the "court" was read out at Sanam Luang last night by Sa-ngiam Boonjan, a judge at the mock trial and member of the Law Society of Thailand.

In his statement Sa-ngiam said he, along with two other judges, were convinced Thaksin violated article 216 and 295 of the Constitution with the sale of Shin Corp's shares.

He said the plaintiff's complaints convinced the judges Thaksin had abused both his and his family's power by amending the Telecom Law to support the sale of Shin shares, and by asking the Board of Investment to provide a special tax exemption for Shin Satellite.

Last night was the last of a series of mock trials organised by Thammasat University.
