A rare treat for Thai soccer fans

Thai fans will get a rare chance to see the Fifa World Cup trophy at close range when it is displayed at Siam Paragon's Royal Paragon Hall tomorrow.
Local enthusiasts will be able to savour the prestigious trophy, made of solid 18-karat gold and weighing 4.9kg, which is on a 100-day journey in 28 countries around the world. The trophy arrived in Bangkok yesterday as part of a deal between Fifa and Coca-Cola and will be in the capital city for three days. Due to security reasons, visitors have to "stand still and keep a respectable distance" from the trophy and "avoid exhaling onto it". However, photography is allowed in the hall and fans will be able to take their pictures with the World Cup trophy. Fans can get a free ticket by handing over six caps of either Coca-Cola, Sprite or Fanta at the entrance of the hall. Meanwhile, the Football Association of Thailand and Fifa are organising a nationwide World Cup in the Park campaign. The campaign will be held alongside the World Cup competition. All 64 matches will be televised for fans in various parks and there will be street soccer contests. The winners of the street soccer tournament will receive the Kaiser Cup, which will be presented by Franz Beckenbauer, president of the 2006 World Cup Organising Committee.
