Boonsak falls to a Chinese

[BADMINTON] Thailand's challenge in the singles event in the US$250,000 China Masters in Chengdu ended yesterday with local ace Boonsak Ponsana crashing out in the second round following a two-game loss to China's Chen Jin.

Boonsak had an easy two-game match against Malaysian Pei Wei Chung 21-12 21-7 in the first round the previous day.

However, despite putting up a brave fight against Chen, a former world junior champion who beat him in the All-England championship last year, Boonsak failed to recreate the form that put him in the semi-finals of the Athens Olympics, where he made it to the semi-finals.

The current world No 8 lost 21-18 21-18.

Boonsak's younger sister Salakjitr suffered an early exit to go down to another Chinese, Chen Li, 10-21 21-17 8-21 in the women's singles first round on Wednesday.

Poompat Sapkulchananart also crashed out yesterday losing in the men's singles second round 21-17 21-12 to former world No 1 Peter Gade Christensen of Denmark.
