Government to encourage industry to use ozone-friendly chemicals in production
The Department of Industrial Works aims eliminate the use of ozone-destroying chemicals by 2009.The agency will promote the use of alternative chemicals among the more than 1,400 factories nationwide that use chemicals that eat away at the earth's protective ozone layer. Several garment factories, for example, use ozone-damaging chemicals such as trichloroethane to clean fabrics, according to the department. The department will campaign to encourage factories to change production methods and offering to install ventilation systems free of charge. - The Nation.
