Thaksin's green light to Korat

[SEA GAMES] Caretaker Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra yesterday gave the green light to select Nakhon Ratchasima as the host city for next year's SEA Games.
Thaksin said during a visit to the province yesterday that he would fully support it as the host for the 24th edition of the SEA Games in December, 2007. But the selection of the province as the main city for the regional competition must be approved at the cabinet meeting next Tuesday. Bangkok was the original choice. Thaksin's support came a day after Suwat Liptapanlop, the Minister in Charge of Sports, checked the readiness of the venues. "The 24th SEA Games will absolutely take place in Nakhon Ratchasima and I hope it will boost the economy here," he said. "The hosts should show hospitality to the 11 participating nations, who will compete with Thailand and I believe that Thai people are pleased to welcome all guests." Nakhon Ratchasima, also known as Korat, will be the main venue for 33 events, while Bangkok and Chon Buri will also be co-hosts. The last time Thailand hosted the SEA Games was in 1995.
