City to vote TRT: poll

Among Bangkok residents, those supporting the ruling Thai Rak Thai Party in the snap election outnumber opponents by half, but are evenly divided on whether the poll would be free and fair, according to an opinion survey released yesterday.

Almost 44 per cent said they would vote for Thai Rak Thai, compared to 30 per cent who would not.

Assumption University's Abac Poll received responses from 1,277 eligible voters in the capital on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Asked whether the upcoming election would be free and fair, 50 per cent of the respondents said they were not or not quite confident, while 39 per cent said they were confident or somewhat confident.

A majority of 57 per cent said they would cast a vote despite the boycott by the opposition, compared to 18 per cent who said they would not go to the polls, and 25 per cent who were unsure.
