All kinds of anti-Thaksin merchandise has been on offer at the massive rally against Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra that began at Sanam Luang on Sunday.
Some items were sold while others were distributed free. They included posters and stickers with messages condemning Thaksin, T-shirts with caricatures of the PM plus other souvenirs. Business-minded rally-goers offered their wares during the demonstration, which entered its second day yesterday.
The Manager Group run by media mogul Sondhi Limthongkul, one of the protest organisers, is the biggest seller of anti-Thaksin products with T-shirts, books and VCDs of Sondhi's "Muang Thai Rai Sapda" (Thailand Weekly) talk shows.
The T-shirts were emblazoned with "Get Out Thaksin" "Give Back Thailand", and "We Will Fight for the King".
Other goods from the Manager Group, including the CD album "Save The Nation", for Bt50, were selling fast.
One political reform group was selling "No More Thaksin" T-shirts, while FTA Watch group sold a top emblazoned with "A Big Fish Eats A Small Fish". Another T-shirt version was a silk screen picture of "Hang Man".
The People's Alliance for Democracy (PAD) had their own T-shirt with a dove symbolising independence, priced at Bt150.
Plenty of private merchants got in on the act at Sanam Luang.
Beside T-shirts and CDs, books were also selling swiftly, especially "10 People Who Help Topple Thaksin".
Some books were virtually free - those who wanted a copy were asked to put Bt3 in a donation box to cover the publication costs.
