Draw damps BEC's hopes

Published on January 31, 2005

[SOCCER] BEC Tero Sasana’s Thailand League title hopes faced another setback yesterday after drawing with a weakened Thailand Tobacco Monopoly team at Thep Hassadin Stadium.

Like TTM, BEC Tero Sasana needed to win to stay in the title race after a disappointing result in their previous game.

The two-time champions were held to a scoreless draw with newly-promoted TOT Corporation, while TTM suffered a bitter 2-0 defeat at the hands of Port Authority of Thailand.

BEC Tero Sasana suffered an early setback with team selection as dynamic midfielder Dutsakorn Thonglao was ruled out. However, the star-studded club was still able to field a strong side led by promising striker Teeratep Winothai.

TTM also had several key players injured, including Yutthajak Konchan. However, they had some good news when national midfielder Atthipol Poolsap was ruled fit for the game.

BEC Tero Sasana started confidently and had their first chance only five minutes into the game. Flamboyant winger Jatupong Thongsuk bore down the right side before crossing the ball into the six yards box but Teeratep could not connect.

Eight minutes later TTM were reduced to 10 men after Anucha Chuaysri intentionally threw the ball at Thanakorn Kumkoma’s head.

During the rest of the game, BEC Tero Sasana tried hard to take advantage of their extra player but all their attempts failed because of an outstanding performance by TTM goalie Narit Taweekul.

In yesterday’s other match, Bangkok University finally registered their first win in the league after a thrilling 3-2 victory over Krungthai Bank.
